Bharath, the land of eternal knowledge which churned out the secrets of material as well as metaphysical world, is becoming an important global player. The materialistic world around, weary of the ever increasing competition, is hopefully listening to her wisdom of Vedas and Upanishads. But can she rise to the occasion and lead the nation states to a sustainable world order? Does she have her inner strengths that gave birth to the Vedas and Upanishads still intact?

The womb that gave birth to Veda Vyasa, Adi Shankara, Varahamihira, Aryabhata, Shusrurha and Bhaskara had become sterile. After Sir C.V. Raman, we have none to be proud of among the golden array of Nobel Laureates. Apart from J.C. Bose, M.N. Saha and few others, we are in bankruptcy of scientific talents. We neither try to understand the treasure of our traditional wisdom nor generate modern scientific and technological innovations with strong philosophical base. Though the thoughts and dreams are sprouting among the crores, which is plenty enough to make this county an unchallengeable one in science, technology and engineering, the move is not gaining ample momentum.

With immense resources and indomitable manpower, Bharath is now searching for a movement to co-ordinate and collaborate all the patriotic, nationalistic science initiatives around us. Vijnana Bharati, the positive science movement with a unique ideology strongly based on Indian ethos and culture, is having in its front this great mission.

We have to teach our younger generation the untold contributions and history of our great grandfathers and mothers. These will inspire and give them the courage and confidence to follow those footsteps. Vijnana Bharati has to take them to the modern world and equip them to face the challenges and move forward. With one hand on the mouse of the computer and the other on the lines of our traditional knowledge and culture, let us walk towards the future with strong steps and full conviction. Let us regain the past glory and lead this world into a paradise of peace and prosperity.

Vijnana Bharati is essentially a nationalistic, patriotic and humanistic science movement where science, involving both engineering and technology, is aimed at societal development, social harmony, ecological balance and environmental sanctity. It would be a totally positive and constructive movement. Vijnana Bharati is more expressively popular as Swadeshi Science Movement where “Swadeshi” connotes the Bharatiya World View on Science where from a single framework, all the three knowledge systems viz. natural sciences, social sciences, and spiritual sciences, have been developed integrally, holistically and all-inclusively right from the Vedic times

Work Shop on Documentation of Scientific Heritage of Madya Pradesh

Filed under: Our Science Heritage — sanjeevsharma @ 8:27 am

Madhya Pradesh is India’s largest state and the geographical heartland of the country. Madhya Pradesh is called the “Heart of India” not only because of its location in the centre of the country. It has been home to the cultural and scientific heritage.
Agriculture is the core competence of Madhya Pradesh. People residing in villages are aware of making agriculture equipment based on the knowledge provided by their forefathers. They use to made plough, hala, and tillers of different kinds as per their requirements. There are many designs are spread along the state without any centralized documentation.
Before successful green revolution in India which converted our vaseundhara a land of dead soil due to heavy use of chemical fertilizers, farmers of MP demonstrated their own organic based fertilizers to increase crop productivity and to conserve environment

The Objective of the work shop is to document various Rich Scientific Heritage of Madhhya Pradesh which had not been documented so far and digitise them so that the rich heritage is not lost to the future generation of the world
Areas to be Covered
The following areas will be covered during the workshop:
Pharmacy : Madhya Pradesh, which has rich vegetation and wild animals, has developed large number of medicines from the extract of the plants rarely found in any other parts of the world. These are to be documented in a scientific manner and digitised so that this is made available to the humanity for cure of diseases that can be cured in an economically affordable way.
Agriculture : Farmers in M.P have developed their own methodology of cultivating various crops suiting the weather of the land and availability of eco- friendly fertilizers which have stood the test of the time. These need to be documented for the knowledge of present and future generations especially to cultivate organic food.
Water Preservation, Water Harvesting& Irrigation: The local rural population of M.P have developed indigenous ways of water harvesting and water preservation with suitable methodology of irrigation of their lands which needs to be documented.
Housing and Sanitation: M.P has developed their own housing technologies for all weather sustainability which has stood the test of the time. The materials used for construction and the architecture used are peculiar to M.P .These ancestors have also developed suitable drainage system, water purification system and other sanitation methods. These need to be documented before it is lost.
Forecast of weather and Natural Calamities: Our ancestors could predict the weather and other natural calamities by observation of the changes in the environment and the behavior of animals in a particular situation. The knowledge regarding these are not documented and needs to documented for scientific evaluation and validation of such methods
